My favorite album of the year — the one I listened to the most according to Spotify — is Red Earth & Pouring Rain by Bear’s Den. This album was my constant companion this year. It has so much going for it, but it’s the guitar sound that keeps me coming back. There’s a longing in it that really encapsulated how 2016 went down for me.
In addition to great songwriting, the artwork is also beautiful, and a perfect fit for the feel of the album.
I haven’t seen this album on any year-end lists so far, and I doubt I will. It’s not flashy. It’s understated and sad. But it’s also beautiful. Check it out.
